The details, without the clutter

What Patients Want to Know About Oral GLP-1 Medication

Oral GLP-1 results are generally more modest than results from injectable medication. Peak currently frames expected weight loss as minimal to approximately 5%, although individual outcomes vary based on the medication, dose, prior treatment, goals and response.

Some patients may notice appetite-related effects during the first week, but treatment timing is individual and no specific result can be guaranteed.

Eligibility requirements are the same as Peak’s injectable GLP-1 program. Your nurse and physician will review your medical history, lab work and health goals to determine whether oral treatment is appropriate.

  • Place the medication under your tongue.
  • Hold it there for the time directed, often one to two minutes.
  • Avoid swallowing immediately unless instructed otherwise.
  • Avoid food and drink for approximately 15 to 30 minutes before and after your dose unless your pharmacy gives different instructions.
  • Always follow the directions provided with your prescription.

Possible side effects may include nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, slowed gastric emptying, vomiting or diarrhea. Peak advises that side effects should be occasional rather than an expected daily experience. Patients can contact the nursing team with questions or concerns.

Yes. Qualified Peak patients may be able to switch between oral and injectable treatment, or between semaglutide and tirzepatide, when clinically appropriate. Current weight-loss patients may not require new labs or a new consultation.

Some patients use oral GLP-1 treatment as part of a maintenance plan after reaching a healthy goal weight. The goal may be to help manage appetite, reduce food noise and support the habits established during active weight loss.

Peak requires an intake process, appropriate lab work and physician consultation before treatment. Patients retain access to Peak nurses and physician support for follow-up questions, side effects, complications or treatment adjustments.
