What Women Face in Menopause

The not-so-great-news: menopause is not one clearly defined section of life where you can know exactly what to expect.

For some women, symptoms begin gradually and stretch across years. Some experience very few changes while for others they experience them all, all at once! Not only that, but there is also no exact point where one stage ends and another begins! Symptoms can overlap, skip around, or look completely different from one person to the next. There is no way to predict exactly what you are going to experience through menopause.

The pretty-great news: at Peak, we see menopause as a transition that unfolds with no set time or schedule, with each woman experiencing it in her own way. The science is clear: the way you care for your body during this journey can make a real difference. Beginning support early in perimenopause can make menopause easier to navigate and help protect your long-term health. But even if you have not started yet, it is never too late!

Wherever you find yourself, you deserve care that meets you where you are and helps you move forward with confidence.

We’ve outlined the stages of menopause below to give you a general picture of the kinds of changes that can happen. Every woman’s experience is unique, so if you do not fit neatly into one of these categories, that is completely normal. Think of this as a guide and a way to bring clarity to a part of life and science that has too often been overlooked.

Perimenopause:

Women will typically experience irregular cycles, unpredictable hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and mood changes among other symptoms. These symptoms can begin years before menopause, leaving many women unsure of what is happening to their bodies.

Menopause:

The official transition brings the end of menstrual cycles. You’ll often hear the benchmark of 12 consecutive months without a period. Menopause often ushers in persistent symptoms like night sweats, brain fog, weight fluctuations, low libido, and bone density loss, although these can be experienced in all stages as well.

Postmenopause:

While symptoms may lessen, long-term health concerns such as cardiovascular risks, osteoporosis, skin changes, and fatigue become important to manage with the right care.

Traditional care often overlooks these stages as separate, focusing only on prescribing SSRIs, hormones or advising women, especially younger women, to “wait it out.”

Online clinics may offer more options and administer prescriptions quickly, but without holistic support for nutrition, exercise, and overall health, this can lead to other issues. As a result, many women feel unheard and unsupported when they need guidance the most.

At Peak Hydration, we believe women deserve more than quick fixes or outdated advice.

The Solution: The Peak Menopause Program

You do not have to face menopause alone. The Peak Menopause Program was designed to provide real answers, personalized care, and ongoing support through every stage. We can help support women experiencing perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.

This six-month program is led by Dr. Heather Honey, a board-certified physician and Women’s Hormone Therapy Specialist, who believes in blending holistic support with modern, research-supported medicine. Her focus is not on treating just one symptom, but on looking at the whole picture and finding the right path for each client. Every plan is science-backed, individualized, and guided with compassion.

Let’s talk about hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

There is no doubt that HRT is an important part of menopause treatment for many women. Recent research shows that women who do not use HRT often face higher long-term health risks, including a significantly increased risk of osteoporosis, which affects about one in two women.

But it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. At Peak, HRT is prescribed thoughtfully when appropriate, then complemented with additional therapies to address the full spectrum of changes women experience during perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.

At Peak, your care goes beyond hormones to include nutrition, fitness, targeted supplements like creatine, wellness shots, and advanced diagnostics. By combining these tools, we create a plan that supports not only symptom relief, but also long-term strength, energy, and health.

“I highly recommend the Menopause Program with Dr. Honey at Peak Hydration Lounge!

The Menopause Program combines medical oversight from Dr. Honey and the RN team with nutrition support, fitness support, supplements, and wellness treatments tailored to my real needs! Dr. Honey is qualified and versed in women’s health and preventive care.

I have suffered for years with hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, thinning hair, weight gain, and muscle aches. I was one of the people who followed the FDA warning labels deterring women from using menopause Hormone Replacement Therapy. The FDA is now removing the “black box” warning labels on many Hormone Replacement Therapy medications used for menopausal symptoms. This update to the labels removes the barriers and allows for better treatment of my menopausal symptoms.

Dr. Honey personally evaluated me and developed an individualized treatment plan which integrates medical management (including Hormone Replacement Therapy) with nutrition program, strength training, supplements, and wellness shots. Dr. Honey examined my personal records and family medical history. Dr. Honey discussed my options, my risks, and my health goals. Dr. Honey provided personal recommendations and referrals for advanced diagnostics.

I am managing my symptoms. I have a reduction in hot flashes, night sweats, and I am sleeping better. My mood has improved. I have more energy throughout the day. My workouts are better, and I feel stronger. I am grateful to feel like myself again. The Menopause Program with Dr. Honey at Peak Hydration Lounge helps me with managing my symptoms while protecting my health for the future.

The Menopause Program with Dr. Honey at Peak Hydration Lounge has improved my quality of life. I am working toward my “Peak Health” with the assistance of Peak Hydration.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Current research shows that HRT is one of the safest and most effective ways to treat menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and bone density loss. Like all medications, it does carry some risks, but research shows that women who do not use HRT often face higher risks of developing conditions such as osteoporosis, dementia, and diabetes. At Peak, your care is always individualized and Dr. Honey carefully reviews your health history and monitors your progress to make sure HRT is both safe and effective for you!

Yes! Actually HRT is one of the most effective ways to protect bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Combined with lifestyle support, it offers strong protection for long-term bone health.

While there are some risks of blood clots for some people, the risk of blood clots with HRT is lower than it is with oral contraceptives and even lower than the natural risk during pregnancy. Dr. Honey will review your health history and recommend the safest form of therapy for you.

It depends, but often the answer is yes. Many women with these health histories are still good candidates for HRT. Your plan will always be guided by a careful review of your personal medical background so you can make a safe and informed decision.

The short answer: no. This is a common concern based on outdated studies. More recent research shows that, for many women, the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks, especially when starting under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause. At Peak, we take your personal health history into account and create a plan designed with your safety in mind.

Our program is built for all stages! Whether you are navigating the unpredictable changes of perimenopause, experiencing the transition of menopause, or focusing on long-term health in postmenopause, your plan is always tailored to your unique needs.

The program itself is not covered by insurance. However, prescriptions for HRT written by Dr. Honey may be covered depending on your plan. Peak also provides Superbills and letters of medical necessity to help you seek potential reimbursement from your insurance provider if requested.

Lab work is not required before starting, but Dr. Honey may order labs if she feels it will provide helpful insights into your care.

We prescribe bioidentical HRT. These are formulations that closely match the hormones your body naturally produces, making them safe, effective, and well-tolerated when used appropriately.

No! Please don’t just push through! Choosing to simply endure menopause symptoms is not only uncomfortable but may increase your risk of conditions such as osteoporosis, dementia, and diabetes. HRT can ease symptoms and help protect your long-term health.

There is no set age that is too young or too old to start HRT! Beginning earlier often provides the strongest protection for long-term health by helping to preserve bone density, support cardiovascular health, and ease symptoms before they become more disruptive. However, women can also safely begin HRT more than ten years after menopause and still see incredible benefits.

The bottom line is that while starting earlier may provide stronger long-term benefits, it is never too late to begin treatment and feel better with the right guidance
