What Is Compression Therapy?

Compression therapy is a broad category of treatment that involves applying controlled pressure to the body to support healthy blood flow, reduce swelling, and promote healing. Traditionally, this has included methods like compression stockings, wraps, and bandages used to treat conditions such as chronic venous insufficiency or lymphedema.

Why NormaTec Compression is Different

At Peak Hydration, we go beyond traditional compression methods by offering access to NormaTec’s advanced dynamic air compression technology—trusted by professional athletes, physical therapists, and recovery experts worldwide!

NormaTec’s patented system uses zone-based, pulsed pressure that starts at your feet and moves upward. This approach optimizes lymphatic drainage, eases muscle soreness, and accelerates recovery in a way that static compression simply can’t. It’s this dynamic, intelligent technology that sets NormaTec apart—and makes it a favorite among elite athletes and wellness seekers alike.

How It Works

The NormaTec compression device features leg attachments that inflate in a rhythmic, pulsing pattern. This dynamic pressure mimics your body’s natural muscle pump, promoting healthy circulation while reducing inflammation and muscle tension. Sessions typically last 30 minutes and are fully customized to your comfort level.

Who It’s For

  • Athletes looking to speed up post-workout recovery
  • Clients managing swelling or fluid retention
  • Individuals with poor circulation or sedentary lifestyles
  • Anyone seeking a non-invasive, relaxing recovery tool

Benefits You Can Expect

  • Decreased muscle soreness and fatigue
  • Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Reduced inflammation and swelling
  • Accelerated recovery after workouts or injury
  • Enhanced range of motion and flexibility

Not Sure If It’s Right for You?

Compression therapy is safe for most people, but it isn’t suitable for everyone! If you have conditions such as DVT, severe hypertension, or skin infections in the treatment area, please consult your provider. We’ll help you determine if this treatment is a good fit for your health and wellness needs.

What to Expect From Our Compression Therapy Sessions

Before Your Appointment

We want your experience to be as smooth and effective as possible, starting with a little preparation. Here’s how you can set yourself up for the best results:

  • Hydrate Well: Compression therapy works best when your body is properly hydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of water before arriving to support circulation and enhance the effects of your session. Want instant hydration while you relax? Add IV therapy to your Compression Therapy session and turn your visit into the ultimate wellness combo.
  • Dress Comfortably: Wear fitted, flexible clothing that allows easy access to your legs. Compression sleeves will be applied directly over your lower body, and socks are required for hygiene and comfort. Don’t worry—if you forget, we have disposable socks available.
  • Share Health Updates: Let us know if you’ve had any recent surgeries, new diagnoses, or relevant changes to your health. Your safety is our priority, and we’ll make sure this therapy is right for you before beginning.
  • Know What to Expect: We’ll walk you through the session, answer questions, and make sure you’re completely comfortable before we begin. Most first-time clients find the experience surprisingly relaxing.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

From the moment you arrive at Peak Hydration, our team is focused on your comfort, safety, and personalized care.

  • Pre-Treatment Check-In: You’ll be greeted by one of our trained professionals who will walk you through the session, answer any questions, and confirm there are no contraindications. We’ll also discuss your goals—whether it’s recovery, circulation, or relaxation—to ensure your session is tailored to your needs.
  • Getting Set Up: You’ll be shown to one of our cozy treatment chairs, where you’ll slip on the NormaTec leg sleeves. Socks are required (we have disposables on hand if needed), and we’ll ensure everything fits comfortably and securely before starting.
  • During Your Session: Once you’re settled, the compression begins—starting at a gentle pressure level (typically between 3–5 for first-timers) and adjusting based on your feedback. The rhythmic pulsing feels like a deep, relaxing massage. Many clients read, meditate, or simply unwind during their 20–60 minute session.
  • Support Throughout: Our staff will periodically check in to make sure you’re comfortable. Need a blanket, a sip of water, or a quick adjustment? We’ve got you!

After Your Appointment

Your recovery doesn’t end when the session does. Here’s how to make the most of your post-treatment experience:
  • Stay Hydrated: Drinking water after your session helps maintain the circulatory and lymphatic benefits of compression therapy. Think of it as sealing in the results.
  • Move Gently: Light activity like walking, stretching, or gentle yoga can help reinforce the flow and reduce any residual stiffness. Avoid intense workouts for a few hours and give your body time to respond to the treatment.
  • Listen to Your Body: Most clients leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, but your response may vary. Whether you feel energized or a bit sleepy, honor what your body is telling you—it’s part of the process.
  • Plan Your Next Step: Consistency matters! Our team can help you decide on an ideal treatment frequency based on your wellness goals—whether that’s once a week for general recovery or several times a week for intensive training support.
